Our Purpose & Goals
Our Purpose
To provide a membership forum for those engaged in Ontario in the business of installing on-site sewage systems, portable toilet rentals, liquid waste handling, transportation and waste treatment, that will promote the interests of its members regarding health and safety, business operations, environmental responsibility and regulatory issues for the benefit of the industry and public at large.
To achieve our mission, the association strives;
- To maintain among the membership and to promote within industry, the highest standards of safety, environmental responsibility, regulatory compliance and concern for the public.
- To institute open forum discussions and action pertaining to practical operating problems such as promotion of vacuum truck services, maintenance advances in equipment, employee development, uniform administrative practices, and operator safety programs.
- To safeguard the interests of the industry and keep members advised with respect to all present or contemplated legislation from all levels of government.
- To promote uniformity and consistency throughout the industry.
Our Goals
Our prime goals were clearly laid out for our members as early as 1992. Some have been achieved. Some are in the works. The rest are yet to come. Here they are as they were laid out in 1992's "Waste Notes", the precursor to the Ontario Hoser.
- To become recognized by the Provincial Ministry of the Environment (MOE) as the voice of sewage and liquid waste carriers.
- To have the local health unit be less powerful and have the MOE become the sole regulator of the industry.
- To be consulted by the MOE prior to the implementation of further regulation.
- To work with the MOE so that they may respond more quickly to industry requests for information and enforcement.
- To create more sewage disposal sites.
- To achieve a membership of 60% of the licensed carriers in the Province.
- To create and enforce a Code of Conduct for the industry.
- To become a self-policing organization under the MOE.
- To educate the general public concerning the proper use of septic systems.
- To provide a membership forum for the exchange of information, equipment and support.
